ASSIGNMENTS:
This is a FULL YEAR class, following the general format of monthly lessons with corresponding assignments and extra-credit opportunities (for those ambitious sorts). For the really brave of heart, there will be an optional class project due at the end of term. As you can see, there are no midterms or final exams; go ahead and breath a collective sigh of relief now!
I like variety, so the assignments will give you a number of opportunities to pick and choose whatever suits your fancy of the moment. Look for the typical fill-in-the-blank and multiple choice type garden-variety questions, as well as thought provoking (hopefully) short answer/essays. The extra credit will be a mix of creative writing, artistic, and research--so pick your poison at your own pleasure .In order to pass the class,
you have to bake me lots of cookies (What?! I'm a sucker for cookies!!) AND, more importantly.....
You must earn at least 150 points out of the 300 possible points for the spring term or you WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE CLASS before the fall term begins. Lavina, myself, and Dracula say so. And, I, for one, am not about to argue with Dracula.
Assignments should be sent to [email protected]. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either myself (Ariella McManus) or my assistant (Lavinia Rookwood) via HOL message or the class email.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS:
I understand completely that real life has a pesky habit of popping up and getting in the way of things; Merlin knows it's caught me more than once. So no harm, no foul there. Assignments are usually due at the end of the month; all I ask is that if you know you need an extension, please let me or Lavinia know. That way we do not break out the garlic and stakes thinking you have been turned into vampire food!
QUILLS AND GRADING:
One quill will be awarded at the end of EACH TERM to those students who receive the minimum 150 points needed to pass that term. If you pass the spring term, lucky you..the journey continues into the fall term and you get to strive for another quill! If not, so sorry....I guess you are now counted among the Undead and were provide useful staking practice for the rookie Vampire Hunters that will follow you in the future.
There are 600 total points available for the entire class, 300 available maximum per term
An optional project has been set up to hopefully provide a bit of fun, as well as offer an opportunity to help make up any missed points (missed assignments, etc.). Please be advised, if you do all the assignments and all the extra credit, you are not only a very ambitious sort and have my utmost of admiration, but you will earn 600 points (duh!). This means that you CAN do the project if you wish to, just for fun sake, but you will NOT get extra points for it. The Headmaster would have ME staked if I tried to do that!!
AWARDS:
Awards will be handed out to those diligent students who manage to get maximum points as well as other 'special' awards to those who bake the best cookies! Just kidding, of course. There will be other 'specialized' awards given--just not for cookies.
Order of the Dragon: Awarded to those students who reach maximum points (600)
Van Helsing Award: Awarded to those students who achieve between 500-599 points
Bram Stoker Award: Awarded to those students who go above & beyond in the creative/research area
Lestat de Lioncourt Award: Awarded to the top points earner from each House
OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE:
Please remember that Vampires: An Undead Odyssey is an HOL class, and thus HOL rules apply. So be respectful, mind your P's and Q's (No clue what that means but it sounded all 'teacher' like so I went with it!), and we should get along just fine. Remember, too, that just as real life zaps you from time to time, I am not invincible to it either, so while lessons are scheduled to go up at the first of every month, if I am a few days late, please bear with me. I promise, I have my anti-vampire charms all ready and should be just fine, so barring some epic disaster (or Lavinia gets me turned into vampire food), I will get them to you as soon as humanly
possible.
Last but not least, my door is always open; this class if for you guys and I want you to have fun with it. If you can think of anything you would like to see anything covered that I have not done or any way that I can improve it, feel free to drop me a line. Or if you just want to say hi; that's fine, too. I don't bite...much.
